Where I loved the look and although alcohol-free gels didn't dry as hard or crunchy as their protein-alcohol based counterparts, it killed me that once the gel went in, even when dry, I dared not touch my hair. The curls didn't bounce, at times they lacked sheen and when I woke up in the morning...WHEW! Also, given the length of time it took for my hair to dry, that constant state of wetness caused me to develop scalp issues (namely seborrhea).
